From the Malvern Gazette, first published Friday 22nd Sep 2006.

COLWALL v OLD VIGORNIANS COLWALL turned in one of their best performances of the season to beat a useful Old Vigornians side by 172 runs at Stowe Lane.

The home side collected the maximum 24 points in their bid to try and break into the WCL division three south promotion spots but champions Wormelow and runners-up Monmouth maintained their positions with a comprehensive victories over Tenbury and basement club Hanley Castle and Upton.

Colwall declared after 43 overs with their score on 288-4 and then bowled the visitors out for just 116.

Nick Panniers and Dave Powell gave Colwall a useful start, with Powell (33) failing by just 20 runs to reach his 1000 for the season.Tom Wolfendale (88) displayed some of his best form of the season, and with skipper Peter Butler (26) and Darren Cooke adding a rapid 24, the innings fl;ourished.

Panniers batted throughout the innings to finish the season with an undefeated 108.

Opening the bowling, Charlie Griffiths took a wicket in his first over to put the Old Vigornians under pressure from the start.

Only Nick Sproson (35) batting at number four offered any real resistance to the in-form partnership of Griffiths (5-44) and Mike King (4-33).

Greek international Jordan Kontarines was brought on to break a stubborn last-wicket stand in the 41st over.

Colwall finished in third spot in the table ruing the fact that six of their league games have been abandoned whereas both teams above them have only suffered three abandonments each.
