Final push for church appeal

From the Redditch Advertiser, first published Monday 25th Sep 2006.

AN appeal for help to save Kinwarton's ancient church from crumbling has almost reached its target.

Church warden Susan Kinnersley made her plea last September for help to raise £72,000 after a survey of the Church of St Mary and Virgin revealed urgent restoration work was needed.

The church roof, porch, belfry and rainwater system all need repair - which Mrs Kinnersley hopes can be started in October.

"With winter coming it all needs to be done soon," she said.

"Hopefully all the work will be finished by Christmas but we are still a little off our target and are still looking for more money to help us reach it."

Cash has so far been raised through fetes, the selling of roof tiles for £5 each and a whopping £30,000 grant from English Heritage.

Mrs Kinnersley, who has been chruch warden there for five years, has strong ties to the building and its grounds as it is where she was married and where her children Christened.

She and her husband have also worshipped there for many years.

People wishing to buy a tile for £5 will have their name recorded in the church's records. To donate to the fund, call Susan Kinnersley on 01789 762554.
