GOODREST JUNIORS U16S 5, NEWTOWN SPORTS BOYS U16S 2
THE first round of the Reg Box U16 Cup saw Newtown's early exit in an exciting and tight contest played in atrocious conditions.Again Newtown were without their first choice goalkeepers and the capable Kyte donned the gloves. Playing in heavy driving rain that turned to sleet both sides were playing neat attractive football but both were unable to break down solid defences. Preece went closest for the Boys but both shots went narrowly wide and Heeley was just unable to connect with one that flashed across the box. Goodrest took the lead ten minutes before the break when the impeccable Parker lost out and the attacker made the most of new found space and fired home.
With the pitch getting heavier the second half was more a battle of fitness rather than finesse. Preece and Bannister came close for the Boys, Preece seeing one effort beat everyone put drop anchor inches from the goal line. Boys got back into the match when Preece was checked just outside the area and Parker rifled home the resultant free-kick low to the keepers' left. Straight from the kick-off Goodrest restored their advantage, with Newtown still celebrating, the winger was left all alone to pick his spot with a rasping drive, two minutes later the same player scored with a carbon copy effort.
Newtown now dominated as their neat silky football down the flanks were creating several chances but again the elements conspired to deny Preece as he saw a hat-trick of efforts come to rest just inches from the goal. Another free-kick outside the Goodrest area gave Parker the chance to show his repertoire and he didn't disappoint with another rasping drive in the opposite corner to bring his side ever closer. Newtown failed to heed earlier warnings and again were guilty of over celebrating as Goodrest marched down field to restore their two goal advantage. Newtown now bombarded the Goodrest goal but they held firm and with Newtown totally committed to attack they were thankful to Kyte for keeping them in the game, but he was cruelly exposed on the stroke of full-time when Goodrest made it five.
Man-of-the-match was Chris Parker.
MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS COLTS U11S 4, KEMPSEY COLTS 4
MALVERN Town Wanderers Colts U11s took on Kempsey in a cup match on a fine day for football on Saturday. After a nervous few minutes at the start Malvern started to dominate and it wasn't long before Liam Philpott's fine shot was deflected into the net by a Kempsey defender. Following some brave work by the goalkeeper, George Perrott, Malvern's defence and midfield were able to push the ball forward looking for the spaces where it wasn't long before Adam Page found the net with a trademark left foot special.
There were some anxious goalmouth scrambles where the Malvern defence, under a fair bit of pressure from one of the more useful Kempsey forwards, found itself clearing their lines several times. After a period of pressure, where one of several corners was forced, Timmy Tedds strode up to the six yard box and smashed home a cracking header from a beautifully placed corner by Adam Page, the captain. After taking a lovely pass through the midfield from Josh Bell, who had been working selflessly all game, and roundinga defender, Marcello Cossali-Francis finished off beautifully in the top corner of the net. Kempsey managed to pull back a goal after good running and crossing past a now tired Malvern defence, but it was really much too late.
L & B BADGERS WANDERERS U11S 0, NEWTOWN SPORTS U11S 1
NEWTOWN travelled to Ralf's Field, Bransford, to play L & B Wanderers in the second round of the Phillip Jeynes Memorial Cup and with both teams undefeated this season a good game was expected.Newtown started the game very strongly and took control of the game early and kept the Wanderers defence on the back foot with the persistant Sam Daffin causing problems all match. Newtown scored the only goal of the game when Ashley Hill with a inch perfect pass found Sam Daffin, who beat two defenders and stroked the ball in at the near post. Newtown keeper Joe Crews wasn't tested in the first half with his defenders Ross Mulka,Shane Abel and George Theakstone mopping up anything Wanderers through at them. James Bannister and Ashley Hill where outstanding in the midfield winning the ball time after time.
The second half started as the first with Newtown pushing for the second goal, the impressive Mulka going on a number of dazzling runs. Newtown bought on Sam Wallace, Ben Kite and Adam Stanton to replace tiring legs. With time running out and with Wanderers only chance of the match keeper Crews made a spectacular save on his near post from a clever flick. Then in the final minute Daffin hit the Wanderers crossbar with a shot from 23 yards. The final whistle blew and Newtown had progressed into the last eight of the cup.
Newtown's man-of-the-match was Ross Mulka.
Newtown would like to thank their sponsor Malvern Catering Services.

OMBERSLEY U10s 0, NEWTOWN SPORTS COLTS U10s 3
IN a repeat of last years U9s cup final, Colts travelled to Ombersley in the Talbot Page-Jones Memorial Shield.Colts started well passing the ball around nicely and then in the 6th minute Colts had a corner which was deliverd to the far post by Anders Wilson, where it was met by Fraser Crump, who headed it back to Sam Bray and his thumping shot left the keeper with no chance. With the defence of Ross Harness and Ben Jackson playing so well the only chance Ombersley had in the first half was a free-kick which was handled well by goalkeeper Elliot Crump.
The second half saw Colts continued to control the game with Anthony Eyles showing some nice touches in midfield, but they had to wait until the final 10 minutes to seal victory, the second goal an unstoppable long range effort by Alex Doyle, the third a mazy run by Fraser Crump cooly finished. Ross Philpotts was unlucky not to add to the scoreline late on with a couple of half chances. Robbie Watts had a solid performance at the back to keep the game safe. Colts welcomed back Simon Wilkes, who had his first action of the season.

WELLAND JUNIOR LIONS U9S 3, CALLOWBROOK SWIFTS 0
THIS George Goode Memorial Trophy fixture gave Callowbrook an opportunity to avenge their recent league defeat by Welland.Although Welland had the bulk of the first-half posession they were finding it difficult to create clear cut chances. Wilf Owen was rising to his captain's role with some good wing play on the right and after nine minutes he played the ball into Henry Dyde, who scored the opener with a rare right-footed strike. Callowbrook's Ellis Woolley then showed good pace and strength down the left before a tackle by George Lloyd put the ball out of play. Undeterred Wooley broke again, but this time he was foiled by keeper Oliver Latham-Jones. Welland responded and Callowbrook's goalkeeper James Davis saved from a Dyde shot before Owen fired one over.
In the second half Callowbrook's Ben Selman surged down the left passing three Welland players. As his team followed forward looking for an equaliser Jon Amery stole the ball and played it up to Hayden Coley, who took the ball on and fired in Welland's second. Welland's third came when a toe-poke by Amery squirmed under Callowbrook's keeper. Callowbrook kept playing and won a corner but Woolley shot wide.
