250 Years Ago: Last Tuesday evening, one William Goslin, a taylor of this city, was committed to our county gaol to await trial on suspicion of murdering a girl who was put out as an apprentice to him by the Parish of Claines. The body of the girl, who had been missing about a month, was found in our river at Worcester two weeks ago.  more...

    Cadets find their way to victory

    Pupils at an independent Worcester school have "swept the board" in a national orienteering competition. King's School, Worcester, won the Junior Combined Cadet Force (CCF) boys and girls team events, with Junior Corporal Duncan Leeson and Cadet Katie Davies both taking the fastest individual junior cadet prize and Sergeant Cara Evans winning the fastest individual senior CCF girls' prize. The boys' team included JCpl Duncan Leeson, Cdt Russell Whitehouse, Cdt Rob Cowburn and Cdt Tom Mills. The junior girls' team included JCpl Sophie Morris, Cdt Katie Davis, Cdt Katie Wreghitt and Cdt Philippa Thomas. Both Sgt Cara Evans and Cpl Ellie Nicholas took part in the senior girls event. A school spokesman said: "We are delighted by their performance in such an important event and they have done the CCF, the school and themselves proud." This event gave young people, like us, the chance to challenge, discuses and talk to county and district councillors about issues in our local area. Attending were students from Prince Henry's, Evesham, Droitwich and Pershore High schools. During g the day we took part in loads of different activities including political speed dating (wasn't as weird as it sounds!) and workshop.  more...

    Climates of the World Part 1

    Zambia in Africa is mainly a region of grassland called the savannah. These areas vary from place to place, in some areas the trees grow more closely together creating more of an open forest. In other places only shrubs and stunted trees can survive the long cold dry winters. In November, summer begins, the rains come. Empty waterholes fill, lowlands flood and seeds left dormant in the soil germinate. The ground is then carpeted with an array of colourful flowers. As the flowers decay, grasses take their place and soon takes over.   more...
