    Memory Lane

    100 Years Ago, November 30, 1907

    A SAD case of child neglect came before magistrates at Bromsgrove Police Court on Tuesday. Alfred Warman, a coal carter, and his wife Elizabeth, from Dodford, were charged with neglecting their five youngsters. An inspection of their hovel of a home revealed the children were dressed in rags, were lousy and their bodies so badly scabbed and consistently bug-bitten that their skins had become hardened so no marks appeared. Bromsgrove's medical officer, Dr Kidd, told magistrates that in his opinion the kitchen table was so encrusted with grime only planing would clean it. Mrs Warman was sent to Worcester gaol for six weeks, without hard labour, while strangely the case against her husband was dismissed.  more...

    THE possibility of Bromsgrove Town Cricket Club and the Hockey Club joining forces was strongly hinted at in a speech at the cricket club's annual meeting held at the Golden Cross Hotel. There were murmurs of approval from guests when Jack Sellars, the chairman of the committee, hinted that the 155-year-old club might extend a warm welcome to the hockey players, whose ground was also in New Road.  more...
